Community Welfare & Social Awareness
Ramna Samaj Kalyan Society works to promote community well-being and address important social issues through various welfare and awareness initiatives. Its activities include environmental clean-up campaigns, mosquito control, educational and medical initiatives, drug-abuse awareness, and community efforts against terrorism and extortion. Through these initiatives, the Society aims to encourage public participation and contribute to a safer, cleaner, and healthier community.
Our Initiatives
Ensuring citizens’ fundamental rights is the responsibility of the state. However, even 55 years after independence, the necessary measures have not been taken by the state to ensure healthcare for citizens. Abu Sadiq Kayem, Vice-President of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), commented that the health sector had become one of the most corruption-affected sectors under state patronage. He said that previous mayors and councillors of Dhaka City Corporation had not taken any plans to protect public health.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of a free medical camp organised by Ramna Samaj Kalyan Society on Saturday, 16 May, at the children’s and adolescents’ playground on New Eskaton Mosque Road.
Kayem said that developed countries, and even neighbouring countries, had arrangements in place to protect citizens’ health. However, repeated selection of corrupt leadership had harmed ordinary people and their families. People in leadership positions must be active and forward-looking so that their well-planned initiatives benefit every member of society. Many leaders make impressive promises before elections, but their words and actions often do not match in practice.
Addressing the residents of Ramna, he urged them to choose honest, competent and active leaders in future elections so that citizens could receive the rights they are entitled to.
In his remarks as chair, Abdus Sattar Suman stated that Ramna Samaj Kalyan Society had been conducting social activities consistently since its establishment in 2017. The Society takes initiatives to address problems whenever they arise at any level of the community.
He added that the Society undertakes various social initiatives, including environmental clean-up campaigns, mosquito control, educational and medical activities, public awareness campaigns against drug abuse, and community resistance against terrorism and extortion. He sought local residents’ cooperation to continue these activities.
